While there are many definitions of the word portal per my quick google search, today, I am going to use this one as we talk about portals- a door or an entrance especially : a grand or imposing one (via Merriam Webster). You may be wondering, what is the big deal about a door? And why the heck are you writing a blog about it? Imagine how many doors you walk through each day, without even thinking about it. There are physical doors and doorways; at home, work, the grocery store, coffee shop, and so on. Even though you don’t think about it, you are consciously or subconsciously choosing to enter that space. Now think about all the metaphorical doors you go through every day. The choice to have a hard conversation, show up at your best, mediate, to choose what to eat, to set a goal, your mindset, reactions- the list goes on. Those are all doorways, or portals into something new. Into a version of yourself that you co-create with your conscious or subconscious thinking. Now, think about all the doorways you chose not to enter or perhaps you haven’t even been able to see yet. We will start to call these portals. That thing in your heart that may feel too tender to explore, or the thing you have always wanted to do, learn or master but can’t find the time. Maybe it’s the values you want to live into but don’t know how, or simply something within yourself that feels unfinished.
In my experience, it is nearly impossible to find and see these portals within our world until we can become quiet within ourselves and allow the space and openness of heart and mind to see where these portals exist. Allow the knowing that is our intuition to guide us to. A grand entrance to what is on the other side. It may be a tunnel portal leading us back into our existing world with a new experience set, and sometimes, it is a staircase into a whole new life. Irrespective of the type, these portals always come with an invitation to enter this grand new space. To explore. To the possibility. To the growth. To a perspective or mindset. Keeping in mind that these portals have always existed for you and are designed for only you to walk through. This isn’t a bring-your- friends and Instagram it moment. This is sole work and soul work. This work is why you exist. And it always brings you into truer alignment with yourself. So maybe as you think about this, you know where the portals that you haven’t walked through are and you are going to explore getting closer to them. Maybe, you have no idea where they are or what they are. If you are looking for a place to start, get quiet. Sit with yourself more often in the space of the heart (rather than mind) and ask yourself what comes up. If you do it with some regularity, a map to a portal will likely appear, and the treasure is in the journey.
